Abstract

Job satisfaction is regarded as one of the key factors for the success of an enterprise and has a huge influence on employee retention, business productivity, and organizational performance. High levels of job satisfaction both enhance employee loyalty and reduce turnover, improve efficiency, and foster sustainable growth. Hence, the purpose of this study was to examine the factors that contribute to the relationship between job satisfaction and employee retention in a Chinese state-owned enterprise. Job satisfaction has been divided into three dimensions: reward policies, work environment, and job performance pressure. This study employed a quantitative (survey) method, and a total of 201 complete questionnaires were obtained from employees of a Chinese state-owned enterprise through stratified random sampling. The findings of this study showed that reward policies, work environment, and job performance pressure have a significant correlation with employee retention. Furthermore, the reward policies and work environment are positively correlated with employee retention; meanwhile, job performance stress is negatively correlated with employee retention. The findings of the multiple regression analysis indicated that job performance pressure has the most significant impact on employee retention. The findings of the study may influence organizations to make effective corrective strategies and to be more purposeful in refining reward policies, improving the working environment and reducing job performance pressure.
